As you have undoubtedly found out, hybrid batteries do not last forever. Most people believe that their hybrid battery is one large battery. This is a common misconception, hybrid batteries are not one large battery, but in fact, several small batteries connected in series to form a high voltage battery pack. All it takes is for one or more of these individual batteries to fail, which affects the ability of the pack to operate efficiently and leads to a degraded battery that either heats up or performs poorly. The car has no way of knowing this until after it happens, which is why your car may be fine one day, and dead the next.

Long before your battery pack fails, some cells in your pack may be getting out of sync with the rest of the pack. As these cells start to fail their internal resistance and self-discharge rates rise. This leads to an unbalanced pack. Here at Hybrid ReVolt, we have the tools necessary to thoroughly test each individual sub-pack, not only to find the bad cells, but to also determine the cells that are failing or underperforming. We then replace the bad, failing and underperforming cells with cells that closely match the condition of your pack. You will then have a battery pack that has its individual cells matched as closely as possible. Most car manufactures don't even do this, so it is very possible to have a battery pack that, while not new, is closer matched in capacity then a new pack.

Some people believe that they can go to a wrecker and pick up a pack to fix their vehicle. While this may fix the immediate issue, you have no idea how long that pack has not been driven, and the battery will likely fail within a year. Most packs from wreckers have been sitting for 3 to 6 months from the time the vehicle was last driven. Although the wrecker may have only had the car for a couple of weeks, how long has the insurance company, auction lot and other "middle men" held on to the car? If the wrecker gets a "fresh" battery pack, these go for a high premium, even higher than our repaired packs, and they offer at best a 90 day warranty (30 days in most cases).
